Research Overview
This study evaluated low-molecular-weight Modified Citrus Pectin (MCP) powder in a diabetic mouse model. Researchers administered MCP by oral gavage at different dose levels and assessed blood glucose, total cholesterol, and triglyceride markers.

Study Design

- Blood glucose observations. All MCP groups showed a downward trend in blood glucose after six weeks. The 800 mg/kg/day and 1,600 mg/kg/day groups showed statistically significant differences from the diabetic model group, whereas the 2,400 mg/kg/day group did not show a statistically significant difference.
- Triglyceride observations. The 800 mg/kg/day and 1,600 mg/kg/day groups showed lower triglyceride levels than the diabetic model group. A comparable statistically significant change was not reported for the high-dose group.
- Total cholesterol observations. No clear statistically significant differences in total cholesterol were observed among the groups under the conditions of this experiment.
- Dose-response interpretation. The reported changes did not follow a simple dose-dependent pattern, indicating that further work would be needed to understand the relationship between dose and observed metabolic markers.
Scientific Interpretation
This study provides early preclinical information on the relationship between low-molecular-weight MCP and glucose- and lipid-related markers in diabetic mice. Under the study conditions, MCP intake was associated with changes in blood glucose and triglyceride measurements at specific dose levels.
The findings cannot be directly translated to oral MCP use in humans. They should not be interpreted as evidence that MCP prevents, treats, or improves diabetes, hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, or any related health condition in people.
